Rotating Clutch Module Disassemble

Tools Required
^ J24204-2 Bar and Stud Assembly
^ J43776 C2 Piston Return Spring Compressor
^ J43777 C1 Piston Return Compressor

1. Position the rotating clutch assembly (4) on the work table so that the rear of the assembly is up.
2. Remove the retaining ring (1) from the rotating clutch assembly.
3. Remove the P1 sun gear (3) with the P1 drive flange (2) attached.
4. Remove the P1 sun gear from the drive flange.

5. Remove the bronze thrust washer (1) from the C2 drive hub (2).

6. Remove the C2 drive hub (1).

Important: The thrust bearing assembly may stick to the C1 drive hub or the C2 drive hub.

7. Remove the thrust bearing assembly (2) from the rear of the C1 drive hub (3) or the front of the C2 drive hub (1).
8. Remove the C1 drive hub (3).

Important: The thrust bearing assembly may stick to the rear of the turbine shaft or the front of the C1 drive hub.

9. Remove the thrust bearing assembly (4) from the rear of the turbine shaft (5) or the front of the C1 drive hub.

10. Remove 7 C2 clutch reaction plates (1) and 6 C2 clutch friction plates (2) from the rotating clutch housing (3).

11. Remove the internal spiral retaining ring (1) from the C1 clutch backplate (3)
12. Remove the retaining ring (2) from the turbine shaft (4).
13. Remove the C1 clutch backplate (3) from the turbine shaft (4).

Caution: Personal injury and/or property damage may result from the movement of the rotating clutch housing or the turbine shaft. The rotating clutch housing and turbine shaft are held together by a retaining ring. Removing the retaining ring allows the turbine shaft and the rotating clutch housing to move freely. When removing the retaining ring, make sure the rotating clutch housing and the turbine shaft are restrained from moving.

14. Remove 6 C1 clutch friction plates (1) and 6 C1 reaction clutch plates (2) from the turbine shaft (3).

15. Remove the retaining ring - l) from the turbine shaft (3).
16. Remove the rotating clutch housing (2) from the rear of the turbine shaft.
17. Remove 2 butt joint seal rings (4) from the turbine shaft.

18. Position the rotating clutch housing (2) on the work table so that the rear of the housing is facing up.
19. Remove the retaining ring (1) from the C1 piston housing (3).

20. Position the rotating clutch housing (7) on the base of J24204-2 (8) so that the rear of the housing is facing up.
21. Install J43777 (5) onto the C1 piston return spring assembly.
22. Align the J43777 (5) notch with the gap in retaining ring (6).
23. Install the J43777 (4) extension onto the shaft of J24204-2 (8).
24. Install the J24204-2 ball bearing (3) and washer (2) onto the shaft of J24204-2.
25. Install the J24204-2 wing nut (1) onto the shaft of J24204-2 (8).
26. Compress the return spring assembly until the retaining ring (6) can be removed.
27. Remove the retaining ring (6) from its groove in the rotating clutch housing inner hub.
28. Remove J24204-2 and J43776 from the rotating clutch housing.
29. Remove the retaining ring (6) from the rotating clutch housing (7).

30. Remove the C1 piston return spring assembly (1) from the C1 clutch piston (3).
31. Remove the C1 clutch piston (3). with the C1 balance piston (2) attached, from the rotating clutch housing.
32. Remove the C1 balance piston (2) from tic C1 clutch piston (3).

33. Remove the seal rings (1) and (2) from tire C1 clutch piston (3).

34. Position the rotating clutch housing (8) on the base of J24204-2 (10) so that the rear of the housing is facing up.
35. Align J43776-2 (7) so that the bowl is facing down.
36. Install J43776-2 (7) onto the shaft of J43776-2 (10) and onto the C2 piston return spring assembly. Make sure the rim of J43776-2 almost touches the retaining ring
37. Install J43776 (5) spring onto the shaft of J24204-2 (10).

Important: J43776-1 has 2 notches. Either notch can fit over the ball of the C1 piston housing, but only one notch also leaves the holes in the retaining ring easily accessible.

38. Align J43776-2 (4) so that:
^ One notch fits over the ball of the C1 piston housing (9).
^ The holes in the retaining ring (6) are easily accessible.

39. Install J43776-2 (4) onto the shaft of J24204-2.
40. Install the J24204-2 ball bearing (3) and washer (2) onto the shaft of J24204-2 (10).
41. Install the J24204-2wing nut (1) onto the shaft of J24204-2-2 (10).

Important: Make sure the J43776-2 notch remains over the ball of the C1 piston housing while the return spring assembly is being compressed.

42. Compress the return spring assembly until the retaining ring (6) can be removed.
43. Remove the retaining ring (6) from its groove in the rotating clutch housing inner hub and move the retaining ring over the top of J43776-2 (7).
