Shift Selector and Detent Lever AssembleTools Required
^ J43909 Selector Shaft Seal Installer
^ J43766 Selector Shaft Spring Pin Installer
1. Install a new selector shaft seal (1) onto J43909 (2)
2. Using J43909 (2), drive selector shaft seal (1) into the main housing.
3. Make sure the selector shaft seal is seated on the bottom of the bore.
4. Install the nib of park pawl apply assembly (1) through the keyhole in detent lever (2).
5. Rotate the park pawl apply assembly 180 degrees.
6. Place the roller end of park pawl apply assembly (5) into the main housing.
7. Align detent lever (3) so that:
^ The cockscomb of the detent lever is facing up.
^ The guide hole for the manual selector valve pin is facing forward.
^ The selector shaft hole in the detent lever is aligned with selector shaft seal (2).
8. Slide selector shaft (1) through the following components.
^ selector shaft seal (2) detent lever (a)
^ selector shaft nut (4)
9. Install the selector shaft into the main housing.
10. Install detent lever (2) onto the fiats of selector shaft (1).
11. Install selector shaft nut (3) onto selector shaft (1).
12. Install a crow's foot with a torque wrench onto nut (3).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
13. Hold the flats of selector shaft (1) and tighten nut (3).
Tighten nut (3) to 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
Notice: DO NOT mar the main housing surface around the spring pin when removing the spring pin. An unmarred surface is required to maintain the seal between the control valve assembly and the main housing.
14. Install spring pin (2) into J43766.
15. Using J43766, drive spring pin (2) into the main housing.
Spring Pin Height
Make sure the spring pin is installed to a sleight of 8.50 - 9.00 mm (0.335 - 0.35 inch)
