Bulletin No.: 06-07-31-001Date: June 22, 2006
TECHNICAL
Subject:
Rattle-Type Noise from Transmission or Driveline Area Under Load (Replace Clutch Assembly)
Models:
2004-2006 Chevrolet Colorado (2WD)
2004-2006 GMC Canyon (2WD)
with 3.5L L5 Engine (VIN 6 - RPO L52) and Manual Transmission (RPO MA5)
Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattle-type noise that sounds like it is coming from the back of the cab in the driveline area. This condition mainly occurs when the vehicle is under load on a slight grade. The sound may be more prevalent as the vehicle warms up.
The condition can be duplicated in 3rd or 4th gear at about 1800-2300 rpm and may be mistaken for a transmission concern. The condition will only occur on 2-wheel drive vehicles equipped with a manual transmission.
Cause
The condition may be caused by a clutch damper high friction, allowing engine power pulses to resonate in the transmission and driveshaft, resulting in a rattle.
