Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement -On Vehicle
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
For prerequisite Steering Column procedures see Steering Wheel and Column Disassembly and Assembly under Steering and Suspension, Steering, Steering Column, Service and Repair, Procedures. Service and Repair
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Position the steering wheel half way between the upper and lower tilt stops.
4. Remove the lower steering column trim cover.
5. Remove the upper steering column trim cover (2) mounting screws (1).
6. Lift the upper steering column trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
7. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the ignition lock cylinder access hole.
8. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
9. Using the bent tip awl, push down on the ignition lock cylinder retaining pin.
10. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position.
11. Remove the ignition lock cylinder from the lock module by pulling the ignition lock cylinder away from the steering column.
Installation Procedure
1. Insert the ignition lock cylinder through the upper shroud.
2. Install the ignition lock cylinder to the lock module by doing the following:
2.1. Align the positioning slot and locking tab slot on the lock module assembly to the positioning tab and locking tab on the ignition lock cylinder.
2.2. Push the ignition lock cylinder into the lock module assembly until the locking tab locks against the lock module.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the upper steering column trim cover mounting screws.
- Tighten the upper steering column trim cover mounting screws to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).
4. Install the lower steering column trim cover.
5. Enable the SIR system.
6. Connect the battery negative cable.
7. Perform the Pass lock learn procedure. Service and Repair
