Bulletin No.: 03-08-49-012A

Date: February 25, 2004

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Change Engine Oil Light On (Reprogram Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC))

Models:
2003-2004 Chevrolet Express
2003-2004 GMC Savana
Built Prior to September 2003

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to add 2004 model year and update the calibration release date to reflect new models. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 03-08-49-012 (Section 08 - Body and Accessories).

Condition

Some customers may comment that the Change Engine Oil Light is illuminated. Per vehicle's Owner's Manual, the Change Engine Oil Light should flash, indicating that the engine oil level is low or stay on steady, indicating the engine oil needs to be changed soon. It has been found that upon the PCM detecting a low oil condition, the Change Engine Oil Light does not flash as described in the Owner's Manual. Instead, the light remains solid for both conditions.

Correction

Reprogram the IPC Module using the new service calibration, which was available from Techline starting February 9, 2004 on the TIS2000 version 2.0 or later. This calibration is an electronic calibration and is not available from GMSPO.

Important:
The Tech 2 must contain software version 23.003 or later available from Techline starting July 2003, on the TIS2000 version TIS 07/2003 data update or later.
