The purpose of this bulletin is to announce the availability of individual replacement parts for the wide load outside rearview mirrors. These mirrors are also called power camper mirrors. It is no longer necessary to replace the entire mirror assembly when a component of the mirror has failed. Use the service procedure below to replace the individual parts of the mirror assembly.

Service Procedure

This procedure is for the complete disassembly of the mirror. Disassemble the mirror and replace failed part(s) only to the extent necessary to complete the repair of the mirror. It is not necessary to remove the mirror assembly from the vehicle to perform this service procedure.

When working with any type of glass or sheet metal with exposed or rough edges, wear approved safety glasses and gloves in order to reduce the chance of personal injury. Tape off the edge of the mirror housing to protect the housing while serviceing the mirror glass.

Tilt the mirror glass to the full upward position.

Use a radiator hose removal tool, or equivalent, placed between the mirror glass and mirror tilt motor to depress the locking tab on the back of the mirror glass in order to release the mirror glass from the motor. Refer to the illustration above for the location of the locking tab.

Disconnect the wire harnesses from the back of the mirror glass.

Remove the three retaining screws that secure the mirror glass tilt motor to the mirror housing.

Disconnect the wire harness from the mirror tilt motor and then remove the mirror tilt motor.

Disconnect the wire harness from the mirror extend/retract motor.

Remove the three retaining screws that secure the mirror extend/retract motor to the mirror housing and then remove the mirror extend/retract motor.

Install the mirror extend/retract motor - assure the pinion gear fully engages the gear rack. To prevent stripped screws, turn each attaching screw counterclockwise until the screw drops into the existing thread in the hole, then tighten in a clockwise direction.

Tighten

Tighten the mirror extend/retract motor retaining screws to 2-3 N.m (18-26 lb in).

Connect the mirror extend/retract motor wire harness.

Connect the mirror tilt motor wire harness.

Install the mirror tilt motor into the mirror housing. To prevent stripped screws, turn each attaching screw counterclockwise until the screw drops into the existing thread in hole, then tighten in a clockwise direction.

Tighten

Tighten the mirror tilt motor retaining screws to 2-3 N.m (18-26 lb in).

Align the mirror glass with the retainer on the mirror tilt motor. Hold the mirror glass against the motor, then slide the mirror glass downward until you hear the mirror retainer lock click into place. Check that the glass is firmly attached by lightly tugging around the periphery of the glass edge.

Clean the mirror assembly.

Verify the proper operation of the mirror.
