85. Rear Cover Assembly Disassemble

Rear Cover Assembly Disassemble





Important: The rear cover and the transfer case adapter housing are disassembled using the same procedures except as indicated.

1. Position rear cover (2) or adapter housing on the work table so that the inside of the rear cover is facing down.
2. Remove retaining ring (1).





3. To remove the rear cover needle bearing assembly on a two-wheel drive transmission, perform the following.
3.1. Position rear cover (1) on the press so that the inside rear cover is facing down.
3.2. Press output tone wheel (2) and needle bearing assembly (3) from the rear cover.





4. To remove the rear cover needle bearing assembly on a 1000 Series four-wheel drive transmission, perform the following.
4.1. Position adapter housing (1) on the worktable with the inside of the adapter housing facing down.
4.2. Using a drift, tap needle bearing assembly (2) from the adapter housing.





5. Position rear cover (1) on the work table so that the inside of the rear cover or adapter housing is facing down.
6. Gently pry C5 clutch piston (2) from rear cover (1) or adapter housing.





7. Remove seal rings (1) and (2) from C5 clutch piston (3).
