Interior - Center of Door Trim Panel Loose

Door Trim Loose In Center of Door (Install Two Rivets Into Pull Handle Bracket)

2005 Chevrolet Colorado
2005 GMC Canyon

Condition

Some customers may comment that the driver door trim is loose.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the two spot welds coming loose on the door pull bracket.

Correction

Secure the door pull bracket to the door by installing rivets. Follow the procedure below.

1. For vehicles equipped with manual windows, remove the window regulator handle from the door by inserting tool J 09886-A between the handle and the plastic washer to remove the retaining clip.

2. Remove the retaining screw from the door handle bezel.

3. Remove the bezel.

4. Remove the two screws securing the switch plate assembly to the door.

5. Lift the front of the plate up to disengage the clip tower.

6. Disconnect the electrical harness from the power mirror, window and lock switch if equipped.

7. Remove the switch plate assembly.

8. Gently pull the door panel away from the door.

9. Drill two 1/4 inch holes through the bracket and the door.

10. Apply Synthetic Lubricant with Teflon to the holes to help prevent corrosion.





11. Install rivets as seen in illustration above.

12. Install the trim panel to the door.

13. Install the electrical connectors to the switch if equipped.

14. Install the switch plate assembly.

15. Install the two screws that secure the assembly to the door.

Tighten

Tighten the screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

16. Install the door handle bezel.

17. Install the screws.

Tighten

Tighten the front door handle bezel screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

18. Install the window regulator handle.
