Instrument Panel (IP) - Assembly Replacement
INSTRUMENT PANEL (I/P) ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the driver seat.
2. Disconnect the battery cables and remove the battery.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
3. Remove the bolt that retains the underhood fuse block to the bulkhead.
4. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3, SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5, and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7 in Restraint Systems.
CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
5. Remove the face-plate (2) from the outer housing of the junction block (1).
6. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector (3) from the junction block (1).
7. Separate the outer housing of the junction block (2) from the bulkhead.
8. Remove the 2 studs that retain the junction block (1) to the bulkhead.
9. Remove the junction block from the bulkhead.
10. Remove the nut (2) that retains the instrument panel (I/P) harness grounding strap (1) to the body.
11. Remove the I/P harness grounding strap (1) from the body.
12. Disconnect the I/P from the forward lamp harness connector (3).
13. Disconnect the forward lamp from the I/P harness connector (4).
14. Disconnect the engine from the forward lamp harness connector (5).
15. Disconnect the electrical connector of the cruise control module (3).
16. Disconnect the electrical connector of the windshield wiper motor (2).
17. Disconnect the electrical connector of the rear lamp wiring harness (1).
18. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir from the bulkhead.
19. Remove the cruise control module from the bulkhead.
20. Note the routing of the I/P wire harness on the engine side of the bulkhead. Remove the I/P wire harness from the bulkhead.
21. Remove the I/P extension from the vehicle.
22. Remove the engine cover from the vehicle.
23. Remove the driver knee bolsters and the passenger knee bolsters.
24. Remove cowl trim panels on the right side and on the left side.
25. Remove the left carpet retainers and the right carpet retainers.
26. Remove the HVAC floor vent cover that is located behind the driver seat.
27. Lift the carpet in order to access the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM).
28. Disconnect the connector position assurance (CPA) and the electrical connector from the SDM.
29. Feed the seat wire harnesses through the access hole in the carpet.
30. Remove the SDM and the seat wire harness from the trough along the left door sill.
31. Disconnect the 16-way I/P from the body harness (2).
32. Disconnect the 10-way I/P from the body harness (1).
33. Disconnect the ground strap harness for the left door (1).
34. Disconnect the left door harness connector (2).
35. Disconnect the door jamb switch connector on the left (3).
36. Release the harness straps in order to remove the harnesses from the trough.
37. Disconnect the headliner connector (2) from the I/P junction block.
38. Disconnect the heater jumper connector (3) from the body harness.
39. Remove the electrical connector of the power seat harness from the I/P junction block.
40. Disconnect the electrical connector of the park brake from the park brake switch.
41. Remove the black 6-way connector from the I/P junction block.
42. Disconnect the roof console harness connector (1) from the I/P junction block.
43. Disconnect the trailer wiring harness connector (2) from the I/P junction block.
44. Disconnect the orange 3-way in-line connector (1).
45. Disconnect the black 5-way in-line connector.
46. Disconnect the brake switch electrical connector.
47. Remove the air outlet duct from the left lap.
48. Remove the bolts that are retaining the left lap bracket of the air outlet duct to the I/P carrier.
49. Remove the left lap bracket of the air outlet duct from the I/P carrier.
50. Disconnect the steering column harness connector by loosening the bolt (2) in the center of the connector.
51. Remove the steering column from the I/P carrier.
52. In order to remove the right I/P harness, disconnect the following components:
- The door lock relay harness (1)
- The door jamb switch harness (3)
- The ground terminal harness (4)
- The I/P door connector harness (5)
- The liftgate connector harness (6)
- The I/P harness fastener (7)
53. Remove the fastener that is retaining the door lock control module (2) to the body.
54. Disconnect the HVAC actuator, which is a black 5-way connector, and the vacuum lines.
55. Remove the I/P cluster trim panel.
56. Remove the radio.
57. Remove the HVAC control assembly.
58. Remove the I/P cluster.
59. Locate the instrument panel that retains the I/P carrier to the carrier support brackets. Remove the 2 bolts on the left sides and on the right sides of the instrument panel.
60. Slide the instrument panel away from the bulkhead.
61. Lift the I/P up and off the pivot points.
62. Remove the I/P assembly from the vehicle.
63. Place the I/P assembly on a clean surface.
64. In order to remove the I/P from the I/P carrier, perform the remaining steps of this procedure. Remove the center defogger grille from the I/P.
65. Remove the ambient light sensor of the daytime running lamps (DRL)
66. Remove the HVAC ducts from the I/P assembly.
67. From the rear of the I/P, remove the 5 screws that retain the top of the I/P to the carrier.
68. Remove the body control module (BCM) from the BCM bracket.
69. Remove the remote keyless entry receiver from the I/P substrate.
70. From the front of the I/P, remove the 6 screws that retain the bottom of the I/P to the carrier.
71. Remove the I/P inflatable restraint.
72. Remove the I/P from the I/P carrier.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the I/P inflatable restraint.
2. At the front of the I/P, install the 6 screws that retain the bottom of the I/P to the carrier.
3. Install the remote keyless entry receiver to the I/P substrate.
4. Install the BCM to the BCM bracket.
5. At the rear of the I/P, install the 5 screws that retain the top of the I/P to the carrier.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
Tighten the bolt to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).
6. Install the HVAC ducts to the I/P assembly.
7. Install the ambient light sensor of the DRL.
8. Install the center defogger grille to the I/P. This completes the installation of the I/P to the I/P carrier.
9. Install the I/P assembly to the vehicle.
10. Lift the I/P up and off the pivot points.
11. Slide the instrument panel away to the bulkhead.
12. Locate the instrument panel that retains the I/P carrier to the carrier support brackets. Install the 2 bolts on the left sides and on the right sides of the instrument panel.
Tighten the bolt to 45 Nm (33 lb ft).
13. Install the I/P cluster.
14. Install the HVAC control assembly.
15. Install the radio.
16. Install the I/P cluster trim panel.
17. Connect the HVAC actuator, which is a black 5-way connector, and the vacuum lines.
18. Install the fastener that is retaining the door lock control module to the body.
19. In order to install the right I/P harness, connect the following components:
- The door lock relay harness (1)
- The door jamb switch harness (3)
- The ground terminal harness (4)
- The I/P door connector harness (5)
- The liftgate connector harness (6)
- The I/P harness fastener (7)
20. Install the steering column to the I/P carrier.
21. Connect the steering column harness connector by loosening the bolt (2) in the center of the connector.
22. Install the left lap bracket of the air outlet duct to the I/P carrier.
23. Install the bolts that are retaining the left lap bracket of the air outlet duct to the I/P carrier.
24. Install the air outlet duct to the left lap.
25. Connect the brake switch electrical connector.
26. Connect the black 5-way in-line connector.
27. Connect the orange 3-way in-line connector (1).
28. Connect the trailer wiring harness connector to the I/P junction block.
29. Connect the roof console harness connector (1) to the I/P junction block.
30. Install the black 6-way connector to the I/P junction block.
31. Connect the electrical connector of the park brake to the park brake switch.
32. Install the electrical connector of the power seat harness to the I/P junction block.
33. Connect the heater jumper connector to the body harness.
34. Connect the headliner connector (2) to the I/P junction block.
35. Release the harness straps in order to install the harnesses to the trough.
36. Connect the door jamb switch connector on the left (3).
37. Connect the left door harness connector (2).
38. Connect the ground strap harness for the left door (1).
39. Connect the 10-way I/P to the body harness (1).
40. Connect the 16-way I/P to the body harness (2).
41. Install the SDM and the seat wire harness to the trough along the left door sill.
42. Feed the seat wire harnesses through the access hole in the carpet.
43. Connect the CPA and the electrical connector to the SDM.
44. Lift the carpet in order to access the SDM.
45. Install the HVAC floor vent cover that is located behind the driver seat.
46. Install the left carpet retainers and the right carpet retainers.
47. Install cowl trim panels on the right side and on the left side.
48. Install the driver knee bolsters and the passenger knee bolsters.
49. Install the engine cover to the vehicle.
50. Install the I/P extension to the vehicle.
51. Note the routing of the I/P wire harness on the engine side of the bulkhead. Install the I/P wire harness to the bulkhead.
52. Install the cruise control module to the bulkhead.
53. Install the power steering fluid reservoir to the bulkhead.
54. Connect the electrical connector of the rear lamp wiring harness (1).
55. Connect the electrical connector of the windshield wiper motor (2).
56. Connect the electrical connector of the cruise control module (3).
57. Connect the engine to the forward lamp harness connector.
58. Connect the forward lamp to the I/P harness connector.
59. Connect the I/P to the forward lamp harness connector (3).
60. Install the I/P harness grounding strap (1) to the body.
61. Install the nut (2) that retains the I/P harness grounding strap (1) to the body.
Tighten the bolt to 2 Nm (18 lb in).
62. Install the junction block to the bulkhead.
63. Install the 2 studs that retain the junction block (1) to the bulkhead.
Tighten the bolt to 2 Nm (18 lb in).
64. Separate the outer housing of the junction block to the bulkhead.
65. Connect the engine harness electrical connector (3) to the junction block (1).
66. Install the face-plate (2) to the outer housing of the junction block (1).
67. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3, SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5, and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 7 in Restraint Systems.
68. Install the bolt that retains the underhood fuse block to the bulkhead.
Tighten the bolt to 2 Nm (18 lb in).
69. Connect the battery cables and install the battery.
70. Install the driver seat.
