Underbody Rattle (Modify Assist Step)

2005 Chevrolet Silverado HD 2500/3500

2005 GMC Sierra HD 2500/3500

Condition
Some customers may comment on a rattle in the underbody.

Cause
The dealer installed tubular assist running boards may be contacting the frame.

Correction

Inspect the top corners of the tubular assist step front brackets for contact with the frame. Clearance should be at least 5 mm (5/16 in). If there is contact or a gap of less than 5 mm (5/16 in) between the front bracket and the frame, grind the tubular assist step front bracket to greater than 5 mm (5/16 in). After grinding, paint the exposed metal per GM 4901-M-D-2005 Approved Refinish Materials booklet. The information for the GM Approved Refinish Materials booklet will now be online at the GM GOODWRENCH WEB SITE ONLY. Printed books have been discontinued. Steps to the site are as follows:
1. Go to www.gmgoodwrench.com
