Lower Bearing & Steering Column Jacket - Standard



Lower Bearing and Steering Column Jacket Replacement (Column Shift Standard)

Removal Procedure





1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 in SIR.

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

2. Remove the steering wheel from the column.
3. Remove the steering column from the vehicle.
4. Remove the ignition lock cylinder case.
5. Remove the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly.
6. Remove the linear shift assembly.
7. Inspect the steering column for accident damage.
8. Gently pull the adapter and bearing assembly (1) from the steering shaft assembly. If the cage and balls separate from the adapter and bearing assembly, you may install them back together in the installation procedure.





9. Remove the steering shaft assembly (1) from the steering column support assembly (2) and the steering column jacket assembly (3).





10. Remove the 4 TORX head screws (1) from the steering column support assembly (2).
11. Discard the 4 TORX� head screws (1).
12. Remove the steering column support assembly (2) from the steering column jacket assembly (3).

Installation Procedure





1. Attach the steering column support assembly (2) to the steering column jacket assembly (3) with 4 TORX head screws (1).
^ Tighten the screws to 17 Nm (13 ft. lbs.).

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.






2. Install the steering shaft assembly (1) into the steering column support assembly (2).





3. If necessary, install the balls (2) into the cage (3).

Important: Verify that all 12 balls are present and that NO foreign debris is present in the inner race, cage, balls or outer race. The orientation of the cage MUST be as shown to install properly.






4. Install the race (1) into the ball and cage assembly.
5. Install the race, cage and balls into the adapter and bearing assembly (2).





6. Install the adapter and bearing assembly (1) onto the steering column jacket assembly.
7. Install the linear shift assembly.
8. Install the turn signal and multifunction switch assembly.
9. Install the ignition lock cylinder case.
10. Install the steering column into the vehicle.
11. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column.
12. Enable the SIR system.
