Bulletin No.: 06-08-110-006

Date: August 11, 2006

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Headliner Sags in Center of Roof (Install Retainer)

Models:
2006 Chevrolet Silverado
2006 GMC Sierra

Attention:
This repair is for vehicles without overhead consoles (DK8 or DK7) or sunroof (CF5).

Condition

Some customers may comment that the headliner sags in the center of the roof.

Cause

The retainers attached to the back side of the headliner may not be strong enough to hold it in place.

Correction

1. Starting at the location shown on the handle (refer to the illustration above), follow the contour of the headliner, measuring 495 mm (19-1/2 in) from the rear door assist handle across the truck.

2. Apply a 50 mm (2 in) wide piece of masking tape in this location and draw a small line on it. Refer to the illustration above.

3. Next, not following the contour, measure 908 mm (35-3/4 in) from the back of the headliner forward to intersect the other measurement and draw a line. Refer to the illustration above. Repeat for the other side.

4. Lay a drop cloth under the drill locations.

5. Using a 7.1 mm (9/32 in) drill bit with a drill stop attached 22 mm (7/8 in) from the tip of the drill, drill two holes through the headliner and roof reinforcement at the two locations.

6. Install the two retainers.
