Fuel Pressure Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair



FUEL RAIL PRESSURE (FRP) SENSOR REPLACEMENT

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 45878 Combustible Gas Detector

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.




3. Remove the engine sight shield.




4. Disconnect the sensor connector.
5. Support the fuel rail flange (4) with a back-up wrench (3) while loosening the sensor (2) with a wrench (1).
6. Remove the sensor (2) from the fuel rail.
7. Remove and discard the O-rings.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Install the sensor (2) into the fuel rail (4) with a new O-ring. Lubricate the O-ring with petroleum jelly.
2. Support the fuel rail flange (4) with a back-up wrench (3) while tightening the sensor (2) with a crowfoot and torque wrench.

Tighten the sensor to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

3. Connect the sensor electrical sensor.
4. Install the negative battery cable.

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

5. Start the vehicle and inspect for CNG fuel leaks at the serviced fitting using the J 45878 or an equivalent leak detector.




6. Install the engine sight shield.
