Starter Motor: Service and Repair
STARTER MOTOR REPLACEMENT
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. If necessary, remove the right front tire and wheel.
3. Remove the right fender wheelhouse inner panel.
4. Remove the engine wiring harness nut (4).
5. Remove the engine wiring harness lead (1) from the starter.
6. Remove the positive battery cable nut (7).
7. Remove the positive battery cable lead (8) from the starter.
8. Remove the turbocharger exhaust pipe.
9. Remove the starter motor bolts.
10. Remove the starter motor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the starter motor.
2. Install the starter motor bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 78 N.m (58 lb ft).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the turbocharger exhaust pipe.
4. Install the positive battery cable lead (8) to the starter.
5. Install the positive battery cable nut (7).
Tighten the nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
6. Install the engine wiring harness lead (1) to the starter.
7. Install the engine wiring harness nut (4).
Tighten the nut to 3.4 N.m (30 lb in).
8. Install the right fender wheelhouse inner panel.
9. If necessary, install the right front tire and wheel.
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
