Subject:
Wide Load Outside Rear View Mirror (RPO DPN) Glass Cracked, Broken or Fell Out of Mirror Housing (Replace Mirror Glass)

Models:
2006 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban
2006 GMC Sierra, Yukon XL

with Wide Load (Trailer) Outside Rearview Mirror with Lower Convex Glass (RPO DPN)

Condition

Some customers may comment that either (or both) the upper or lower glass in the outside rearview camper mirror (RPO DPN) has cracked, broken or fell out of the mirror housing.

Correction

Do NOT replace the entire mirror assembly.

Replace only the mirror glass, using the parts listed in the Parts Information section. Refer to Service Procedure in this bulletin for upper and lower glass replacement procedures.

Service Procedure

Upper Glass Replacement

Caution:
The entire glass surface must be taped to prevent personal injury.

1. Tape the entire glass in order to prevent injury.

2. Tilt the upper glass down.

3. Tilt the lower glass down.

4. Using a sturdy putty knife or similar tool at the bottom of the upper mirror, pry the upper glass toward the top of the housing until the glass backing plate disconnects from the housing.

5. Disconnect the electrical connectors.

6. Dispose of the old glass assembly.

7. Attach the electrical connectors to the new glass assembly.

8. Align the spring fingers of the new upper glass assembly to the ramps at the sides and bottom of the housing.

9. Position the glass assembly at the top of the housing opening and slide down to engage the locking tabs.

Lower Glass Replacement

Caution:
The entire glass surface must be taped to prevent personal injury.

1. Tape the entire glass in order to prevent injury.

2. Break the glass and remove at center for access to the attaching screw.

3. Remove the screw and dispose of the glass, backing plate and star washer.

4. Align the new backing plate, star washer and screw to the attaching hole.

Important:
The star washer must be centered.

5. Tighten the attaching screw.

Tighten

Tighten the attaching screw to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

6. Clean the glass backing plate attaching surface with alcohol.

7. Remove the protective paper from the adhesive strip on the glass.

8. Align the glass to the backing plate and press into place to secure.
