Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Notice: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Remove the engine cover.
3. Drain the coolant below the level of the ECT sensor. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac N Fill).




4. Disconnect the electrical connector.




5. Carefully remove the ECT sensor.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.

1. Coat the threads with sealer GM P/N 9985253 or equivalent.





Notice: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Notice.

2. Install the ECT sensor.

Tighten the ECT sensor to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




3. Connect the ECT sensor harness connector to the ECT sensor.
4. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill) Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac N Fill).
5. Install the engine cover.
