Fuel Tank Fuel Pump Module Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief (With CH 48027) Fuel Pressure Relief (Without CH 48027).
3. Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining.
4. Remove the fuel tank.
5. Remove the fuel sender assembly.
6. Support the fuel sender assembly with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand.
7. Pull the strainer off the fuel sender. Discard the strainer after inspection.
8. Inspect the strainer. Replace a contaminated strainer and clean the fuel tank.
9. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector.
10. Remove the electrical connector retaining clip from the fuel level sensor.
11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel level sensor under the fuel sender cover.
12. Remove the retaining clip from the fuel level sensor.
13. Squeeze the locking tangs and remove the fuel level sensor (1).
14. Remove the fuel pressure sensor (2).
Installation Procedure
1. Install the fuel pressure sensor (2).
2. Install the fuel level sensor (2).
3. Install the retaining clip to the fuel level sensor.
4. Connect the electrical connector to the fuel level sensor.
5. Connect the electrical connector retaining clip.
6. Connect the fuel pump electrical connector.
7. Install the fuel sender assembly.
8. Install the fuel tank.
9. Refill the fuel tank.
10. Tighten the fuel filler cap.
11. Connect the negative battery cable.
12. Inspect for leaks:
1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
3. Turn ON the ignition.
4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
