Power Steering Pump Replacement



Power Steering Pump Replacement (4.3L)

Removal Procedure




1. Place a drain pan below under the vehicle.
2. Remove the power steering pump pulley .
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
4. Disconnect the reservoir outlet hose from the power steering pump through the wheel well.




5. Disconnect the power steering gear outlet hose or cooler hose from the power steering pump through the wheel well.




6. Disconnect the power brake booster inlet hose (2) from the power steering pump (1) through the wheel well.
7. Cap the ends of the hose and the power steering pump in order to prevent the entrance of dirt.




8. Remove the power steering pump mounting bolts and the nuts.
9. Remove the power steering pump from the vehicle.




10. Remove the power steering pump rear bracket mounting nuts.
11. Remove the power steering pump rear bracket.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the rear bracket to the power steering pump.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice .

2. Install the power steering pump rear bracket mounting nuts.

Tighten the nuts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).




3. Install the power steering pump to the vehicle.
4. Install the power steering pump front mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

5. Uncap the power steering hoses.





Important: Route the power steering hoses in the same location in which they were removed.

6. Install the power brake booster inlet hose (2) to the power steering pump through the wheel well.

Tighten the hose fitting to 33 N.m (24 lb ft).




7. Install the power steering gear outlet hose or cooler hose to the power steering pump through the wheel well.




8. Install the reservoir outlet hose to the power steering pump through the wheel well.
9. Install the power steering pump pulley.
10. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
11. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
