Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Caution:
Refer to SIR Caution.
Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
2. Caution:
Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution.
Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the gap hider. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement.
5. Put the steering column in the CENTER position.
6. Remove the tilt lever (1).
7. Remove the retaining screws (3) from the lower steering column trim cover.
8. Disconnect the closeout trim cover from the lower steering column trim cover.
9. Remove the retaining screw (2) from the upper steering column trim cover (1).
10. Lift the upper trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
11. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the access hole in the ignition lock cylinder.
12. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
13. Using the bent tip awl push down on the retaining pin of the ignition lock cylinder.
14. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position and remove the lock cylinder.
15. Remove the upper trim cover.
16. Remove the closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the upper steering column trim cover (1) to the closeout trim cover.
2. Install the upper trim cover (1) to the steering column.
3. Notice:
Refer to Fastener Notice.
Install the retaining screw (2) to the upper steering column trim cover.
Tighten the screw to 1.5 Nm (13 inch lbs.).
4. Install the Ignition lock cylinder.
5. Install the lower trim cover (2) and ensure that the tabs engage with the tabs on the upper trim cover (1). Snap the tabs together.
6. Connect the lower steering column trim cover to the closeout trim cover.
7. Install the retaining screws (3) to the lower steering column trim cover.
Tighten the screws to 3 Nm (27 inch lbs.).
8. Install the tilt lever (1).
9. Install the gap hider. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement.
10. Install the steering wheel.
11. Connect the battery negative cable.
12. Enable the SIR system.
