Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) monitors each door ajar circuit to indicate the status of the door. When the respective door is opened, the door ajar signal circuit is switched to ground by the door lock ajar indicator switch, the BCM detects the drop in voltage in the circuit and then communicates this status to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) via a serial data message. The IPC, upon receipt of this serial data message, will illuminate the appropriate ajar message in the driver information center (DIC) and when the transaxle is shifted out of PARK, the DIC will also send a serial data message to the radio to activate the door ajar audible warning.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The system voltage is 9-18 volts.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The BCM detects a short to ground in a door ajar circuit for longer than 10 minutes.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The BCM stores the DTC to memory.
* The appropriate door ajar indicator is on at all times.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.
Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, with all the doors closed, observe the appropriate scan tool Door Ajar Switch parameter while opening and closing the appropriate door. The reading should change between Closed and Ajar.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door lock.
2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Door Ajar Switch parameter is Closed.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal B for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
3. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal B and the ground circuit terminal A.
4. Verify the scan tool Door Ajar Switch parameter is Ajar.
• If not the specified value, test the appropriate signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the appropriate door lock.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door lock.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal B and the ground terminal A with the appropriate door lock in the open position.
• If not the specified value, replace the appropriate door lock.
3. Test for less than 2.0 ohms between the signal terminal B and the ground terminal A with the appropriate door lock in the closed position.
• If greater than the specified range, replace the appropriate door lock.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure. Verification Tests
* Front Side Door Lock Replacement
* Rear Door Lock Replacement
