Symptoms - Displays and Gages

Important: The following steps must be completed before using the symptom diagnostic tables.

1. Before using the symptom diagnostic tables, perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
in order to verify the following conditions:

* There are not any DTCs set.
* The control modules can communicate via the serial data link.

2. Review the system operation in order to understand the system functions. Refer to the following description and operations:

* Audible Warnings Description and Operation
* Instrument Cluster Description and Operation
* Indicator/Warning Message Description and Operation
* Driver Information Center (DIC) Description and Operation

Visual/Physical Inspection

* Inspect for aftermarket devices which can affect the operation of the instrument panel cluster or the audible warnings system.
* Inspect the accessible system components or the visible system components for obvious damage or for obvious conditions which can cause the symptom.
* Inspect for the proper fluid levels.

Intermittent

Faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Diagnostic Aids. Component Tests and General Diagnostics

Refer to a symptom diagnostic procedure from the following list in order to diagnose the symptom:

Gages and Odometer
* Engine Coolant Temperature Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
* Engine Oil Pressure Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
* Fuel Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative
* Instrument Cluster Inoperative
* Hourmeter Inaccurate or Inoperative
* Speedometer and/or Odometer Inaccurate or Inoperative
* Volt Gage Inaccurate or Inoperative

Indicators
* ABS Indicator Malfunction
* Air Bag Indicator Circuit Malfunction
* Brake Warning Indicator Malfunction
* Charge Indicator Malfunction
* Driver Information Center (DIC) Compass Inaccurate or CAL Displayed
* Driver Information Center (DIC) Switch Inoperative
* Driver Information Center (DIC) Temperature Display Inaccurate or Inoperative
* Engine Oil Pressure Indicator Always On
* Lights On Indicator Malfunction
* Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Diagnosis for the 4.3L engine
* Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Diagnosis for the 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, or 7.0L engine
* Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Diagnosis for the 6.6L (LMM) engine
* Passenger Presence System Indicator Circuit Malfunction
* Seat Belt Indicator Circuit Malfunction - Driver
* Seat Belt Indicator Circuit Malfunction - Passenger
* Stability System Not Ready Indicator Always On
* Stability System Not Ready Indicator Inoperative
* Low Tire Pressure Indicator Always On
* Low Tire Pressure Indicator Inoperative
* Tow/Haul Switch/Indicator Always On or Inoperative for the 4L60-E transmission
* Tow/Haul Switch/Indicator Always On or Inoperative for the 4L80-E transmission
* Turn Signal Lamps and/or Indicators Malfunction
* Water-in-Fuel Lamp Always On
* Water-in-Fuel Lamp Inoperative
* Engine Cranks but Does Not Run
