Auxiliary Power Outlet: Description and Operation

Power Outlets Description and Operation (120 AC Volts)

System Description

The AC/DC power outlet system consists of the following components:

* The AC/DC INV fuse
* The AC/DC power outlet control module
* The 120-volt power receptacle

System Operation

The AC/DC power outlet control module converts the 12-volt DC input voltage to 120 AC volts at the 120-volt power receptacle. The AC/DC power outlet control module provides 150 watts of power. The 120-volt power receptacle is located on the right rear interior trim panel. The AC/DC power control module is located behind the right rear trim panel.

Circuit Operation

Battery voltage is supplied to the AC/DC power outlet control module from the 25-amp AC/DC INV fuse located in the underhood fuse block. The AC/DC power control module is grounded directly to the right rear D-pillar. When the ignition is turned ON, ignition voltage is supplied to the 120-volt power receptacle using the ignition 3 voltage circuit. When a 120-volt AC powered device is plugged into the 120-volt power receptacle, with the ignition ON, the normally open plug inserted switch, located internally in the 120-volt power receptacle, closes. The AC/DC power outlet control module detects an ignition voltage signal on the 120 VAC Inverter control circuit and the AC/DC power outlet control module enables the 120 AC volts to the 120-volt power receptacle.
