Transfer Case Fluid Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to Fuel Tank Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).




3. Remove the fill plug.




4. Remove the drain plug.

Installation Procedure




1. Apply pipe sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the drain plug threads.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the drain plug.

Tighten the plug to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).

3. Fill the transfer case with the proper fluid. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities ().




4. Apply pipe sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to the fill plug threads.
5. Install the fill plug.

Tighten the plug to 27 Nm (20 lb ft).

6. Install the fuel tank shield, if equipped. Refer to Fuel Tank Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
