Drive Belt: Service and Repair




Drive Belt Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Remove the upper radiator fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (6.6L) (Service and Repair).
2. Install a 1/2-inch breaker bar into the tensioner opening and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise.
3. Remove the belt from the tensioner.
4. Slowly release the tension on the tensioner arm.
5. Remove the drive belt from the drive pulleys , if equipped with a single generator.




6. Remove the drive belt from the drive pulleys, if equipped with dual generators.
7. Inspect the drive belt for excessive cracking or any visible damage and replace if necessary.

Installation Procedure




1. Install a 1/2 inch breaker bar into the tensioner opening and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise.
2. Install the drive belt, if equipped with dual generators.
3. Route the drive belt over and/or around all the drive pulleys except for the tensioner.




4. Install the drive belt, if equipped with a single generator.
5. Route the drive belt over and/or around all the drive pulleys except for the tensioner.
6. Install the belt over and/or around the tensioner.
7. Slowly release the tension on the tensioner arm.
8. Inspect the drive belt for proper installation on and/or around all pulleys.
9. Install the upper radiator fan shroud. Refer to Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (4.3L, 4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Fan Upper Shroud Replacement (6.6L) (Service and Repair).
