Instrument Panel Inflatable Restraint Module Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning (SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning).
Warning: Refer to SIR Warning (SIR Warning).
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the right knee bolster bracket. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Disconnect the instrument panel inflatable restraint module electrical connector.




6. Remove the upper bolts (3) from the instrument panel inflatable restraint module (1).
7. Remove the lower bolts (2) from the instrument panel inflatable restraint module (1).
8. Remove the instrument panel inflatable restraint module (1).
9. Ensure that the instrument panel inflatable restraint module is fully deployed before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping (Service and Repair).

Installation Procedure




1. Install the inflatable restraint I/P module (1) to the instrument panel inflatable restraint carrier.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the lower bolts (2) hand tight.
3. Install the lower bolts (3) to the inflatable restraint instrument panel inflatable restraint module and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
4. Connect the electrical connector to the instrument panel inflatable restraint module.
5. Install the right knee bolster bracket. Refer to Passenger Knee Bolster Bracket Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Install the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Install the instrument panel trim pad. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
