Condition
Some customers may comment on an intermittent MIL/SES Light illumination with the following DTCs set: P2564, P2565, P2563, P0234, P0299, P0401, P0698 or P0106.
Cause
On vehicles built prior to October 2008, the turbocharger vane position sensor may contact against the engine cover insulation, creating an open or short in the vane position sensor harness.
Correction
Important
Vehicles built after October 2008 have a revised engine cover to clear the vane position sensor.
1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in SI.
2. Inspect for damage to the vane position sensor harness at the top of the sensor due to contact with the engine cover.
3. If the harness is damaged, replace the Turbo Vane Position Sensor with P/N 12635324. Refer to Turbocharger Vane Position Sensor Replacement in SI.
4. Place the engine cover on a workbench. Notice the two raised areas on the inside of the engine cover (1). Tape an x using the two raised areas as a straight edge (2).
5. Cut a 50 mm (2 in) square section (1) out of the engine cover insulation, centered at the point of contact (or the taped x) with the vane position sensor.
6. Apply reflective tape, P/N 10184916, to the exposed area of the engine cover.
7. Reinstall the engine cover.
