Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the 2 master cylinder nuts.


Note

DO NOT disconnect the brake pipes from the master cylinder.

2. Position the master cylinder aside and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.
3. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Non-Hybrid) (Steering Column Replacement)Steering Column Replacement (Two Mode Hybrid) (Steering Column Replacement) .




4. Remove the transmission range selector cable support bolt from the instrument panel (I/P) reinforcement brace.
5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the following components:

* The adjustable pedals motor assembly
* The memory sensor connector, if equipped
* The pedal position sensor





6. Remove the accelerator pedal position sensor assembly. Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Replacement (Service and Repair) .
7. Remove the left side floor air outlet duct. Refer to Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side (Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side) .




8. Remove the brake booster pushrod retainer bolt (1).




9. Remove the brake booster pushrod retainer (1).




10. Remove the stoplamp switch (1).
11. Disconnect the brake booster pushrod from the brake pedal pivot.




12. Remove the adjustable pedal bracket nuts (1).




13. Remove the adjustable pedal bracket bolt (1).
14. Position the brake booster forward until the studs are past the adjustable pedal bracket holes.
15. Remove the adjustable pedal assembly from the vehicle.



Installation Procedure

1. With the aid of an assistant, position the brake booster to the vehicle.




2. Install the adjustable pedal assembly to the vehicle.


Note

Do not tighten the adjustable pedal bracket bolt until the adjustable pedal bracket nuts are installed.

3. Hand install the adjustable pedal bracket bolt (1).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution) .




4. Install the adjustable pedal bracket nuts (1) and tighten to 36 Nm (27 lb ft) .
5. Tighten the adjustable pedal bracket bolt to 36 Nm (27 lb ft) .




6. Apply a thin coat of high temperature grease GM P/N 12345994 (Canadian P/N 10953501) to the pushrod pin on the brake pedal.
7. Connect the brake booster pushrod to the brake pedal pivot.
8. Install the stoplamp switch (1).




9. Install the brake booster pushrod retainer (1).
Rotate the retainer 360 degrees to ensure it is seated properly before tightening the retainer bolt.




10. Install the brake booster pushrod retainer bolt (1) and tighten to 10 Nm
(89 lb in)
.
11. Install the accelerator pedal position sensor assembly. Refer to Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor Replacement (Service and Repair) .
12. Connect the electrical connectors to the following components:

* The adjustable pedals motor assembly
* The memory sensor connector, if equipped
* The pedal position sensor





13. Install the transmission range selector cable support bolt to the I/P reinforcement brace and tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb in) .
14. Install the steering column to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement (Non-Hybrid) (Steering Column Replacement)Steering Column Replacement (Two Mode Hybrid) (Steering Column Replacement) .
15. Install the left side floor air outlet duct. Refer to Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side (Floor Air Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side) .
16. Install the master cylinder to the brake booster.
17. Install the 2 master cylinder nuts.

* For vehicles without JL4, tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft) .
* For vehicles with JL4, tighten the nuts to 32 Nm (24 lb ft) .

18. Verify the correct operation of the adjustable pedals.
