Date: October 02, 2009
Subject: 09269 - Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles - Coolant Leak - Heater Hose Connection - Expires with October 31, 2010
Models:
2009 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV
2009 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe
2009 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL
This service update includes vehicles in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealership for any reason. It will expire October 31, 2010.
Purpose
This bulletin provides a service procedure to inspect the heater hose quick connection to ensure that it is fully engaged on certain 2009 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles. The heater hose quick connect may not be fully seated and engaged, which could result in the loss of coolant and an engine overheat condition.
This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer for any type of service through October 31, 2010.
Vehicles Involved
A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in GM GlobalConnect (US), or attached to the Dealer Communication (Canada), used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system listed below.
Important
Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using GMVIS (dealers using WINS) or the Investigate Vehicle History screen (dealers using GWM). Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.
Parts Information
No parts are required for this service update.
Service Procedure
1. Open the hood.
Caution
Do not run the engine while performing the inspection. Wait for the engine and the cooling system to cool before performing the inspection. Heater and radiator hoses and other engine parts can be very hot. Do not touch them while the engine is running. If you do, you can be burned. Do not run the engine if there is a leak. If you run the engine, it could lose all coolant.
2. Locate the heater inlet and surge tank outlet hoses at the heater core pipe location (1).
Note
Inspect the hoses by pulling on each hose to ensure the quick connect feature of each hose is fully seated.
3. Inspect the connection of these two hoses at the heater core pipe location.
- If there is a good connection, close the hood. No further action is required.
- If there is NOT a good connection, firmly push the quick connect feature of the hose onto the heater core pipe until you hear a click.
4. Close the hood.
