StabiliTrak Indicator Malfunction
StabiliTrak Indicator Malfunction
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
Circuit Description
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) illuminates the Stabilitrak indicator during the IPC bulb check or when the electronic brake control module (EBCM) sends a serial data message to the IPC commanding the indicator ON.

Circuit Verification
Ignition ON, with a scan tool command the Instrument Panel Cluster, Display(s) Test ON and OFF. The stabilitrak indicator should turn ON and OFF.
If the Stabilitrak indicator does not turn ON and OFF, replace the instrument panel cluster.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate control switch.
2. Test for less than 5 ohm between the ground circuit terminal listed below and ground.
* Traction Control Switch terminal A (with NP1)
* I/P Multifunction Switch terminal H (without NP1)
3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool BCM TCS Switch State parameter is Released.
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit test normal replace the BCM.
* Traction Control Switch terminal C (with NP1)
* I/P Multifunction Switch terminal J (without NP1)
4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the terminals listed below. Verify the scan tool BCM TCS Switch State parameter is Pressed.
* Traction Control Switch signal circuit terminal C and ground circuit terminal A (with NP1).
* I/P Multifunction Switch signal circuit terminal J and ground circuit terminal H (without NP1).
• If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit test normal replace the BCM.
5. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the control switch.
Component Testing
Traction Control Switch (With NP1)
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the traction control switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal C and the ground terminal A with the switch in the open position.
• If not the specified value, replace the traction control switch.
3. Test for less than 3 ohm between the signal terminal C and the ground terminal A with the switch in the closed position.
• If greater than the specified range, replace the traction control switch.
I/P Multifunction Switch (Without NP1)
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the I/P multifunction control switch.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal J and the ground terminal H with the switch in the open position.
• If not the specified value, replace the I/P multifunction control switch.
3. Test for less than 3 ohm between the signal terminal J and the ground terminal H with the switch in the closed position.
• If greater than the specified range, replace the I/P multifunction control switch.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
* Accessory Switch Replacement (Service and Repair)
* Electronic Traction Control Switch Replacement (Service and Repair)
* Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for BCM replacement, setup, and programming.
