Removal and Replacement




Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LLV, LLR) (2.9L, 3.7L)

J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
2. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
3. Remove the drive belt.
4. Disconnect the compressor electrical connectors.

Note: Some system pressure may still exist in the A/C compressor crankcase after you evacuate the system.

5. Remove the discharge hose bolt from the compressor.
6. Remove the suction hose from the compressor.
7. Remove the compressor hose assembly blocks from the compressor.




8. Remove the compressor mounting bolts from the compressor (1).
9. Remove the compressor.
10. Drain and measure the compressor oil. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Oil Balancing.

Installation Procedure

1. Adjust the proper amount of oil to the replacement compressor. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities.
2. Install the compressor.





Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution.

3. Install the compressor mounting bolts to the compressor (1). Tighten the bolts to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).




4. Install the compressor hose assembly blocks to the compressor.
5. Install the suction hose to the compressor
6. Install the discharge hose bolt to the compressor (1). Tighten the bolts to 33 Nm (24 lb ft).
7. Connect the compressor electrical connectors.
8. Install the drive belt.
9. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement.
10. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
11. Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A .
