Odometer Trip/Reset Switch Inoperative
Odometer Trip/Reset Switch Inoperative
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
Circuit/System Description
The BCM calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed signal from the engine control module (ECM). The BCM then sends a serial data message to the IPC indicating the value of the odometer. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal BCM memory failure is detected or there is a serial data communication fault. The odometer displays either miles or kilometers and the desired units can be accessed by pressing the trip/reset switch.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, press the trip reset button and verify the odometer display toggles between season odometer and trip odometer.
If the odometer display does not toggle between season odometer and trip odometer, replace the IPC.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
