Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.

1. Remove the intake manifold tube. Refer to Intake Manifold Tube Replacement (LMM) (Intake Manifold Tube Replacement).
2. Drain the coolant to a level below the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill) (Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill)) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LGH) (Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill VIN L)).
3. Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector(s) (1) from the appropriate ECT sensor (s).

4. Remove the appropriate ECT sensor(s) (1).

Installation Procedure

Caution: Use care when handling the coolant sensor. Damage to the coolant sensor will affect the operation of the fuel control system.

1. If installing the old sensor(s), coat the threads with sealant GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480), or equivalent.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the appropriate ECT sensor(s) (1) and tighten to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

3. Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector(s) (1) to the appropriate ECT sensor(s).
4. Fill the cooling system, if necessary. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) (Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill) (Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac N Fill)) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LGH) (Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill VIN L)).
5. Install the intake manifold tube. Refer to Intake Manifold Tube Replacement (LMM) (Intake Manifold Tube Replacement).
