Subject: Part Ordering Information on Rear Bumper Bar Assembly Repairs
Models:
2007-2010 Chevrolet Silverado
2007-2010 GMC Sierra
Attention:
This bulletin only applies to repairs involving any or all of the following rear bumper component part numbers: 20899963, 20899964, 20899965, 20899966 or 20899967.
A new design of the rear impact bar assembly utilizes smaller diameter (M10 instead of M12) fasteners to retain the parts. If the vehicle being serviced is equipped with M12 nut/bolt combinations, you will need to order the appropriate number of sets of the new M10 part numbers listed below to allow the bumper bar assembly to be properly replaced.
Before ordering P/Ns 20899963, 20899964, 20899965, 20899966 or 20899967, you need to verify the size of the nuts installed on the original bumper assembly. This can easily be done using a 15 mm socket to test the fit of the nuts.
- If the 15 mm socket fits, the bumper assembly has M10 fasteners. You will only need to replace any damaged nut, bolt and washer combinations.
- If the nut is larger than 15 mm (fitting an 18 mm socket), you will need to order additional nut, bolt and washer combinations. Depending on the component parts being replaced in the rear bumper assembly, anywhere from three to eight sets of fasteners will need to be ordered.
