Counter Gear Shaft Disassemble




1. Use an impact gun to loosen and remove the nut from the main shaft.




2. Remove the yoke flange from the main shaft, as necessary.




3. Using a 10 mm socket, remove the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) screw.




4. Remove the VSS.




5. Remove the 10 cover screws.




6. Remove the cover carefully, as oil may remain in the cover.




7. Remove the spacer from the flange and yoke, as necessary.




8. Using a magnet, remove the pulling sphere out of the speedometer gear.




9. Remove the speedometer gear.




10. Place the transmission over 2 pieces of wood.
11. Using locking pliers, remove the snap ring from the 5th gear bearing.




12. Using a hammer and punch, remove the roll pin and the 5th gear fork.




13. Remove the taper and the synchronization ring from the 5th gear.




14. Remove the 5th gear synchronizer assembly with the fork.




15. Remove the 2 roller bearings and spacer.




16. Remove the push pulley.




17. Using a magnet, remove the pulley sphere.




18. Remove the 4 screws from the bearing retainer.




19. Using a screwdriver, carefully remove the retainer.




20. Remove the retainer bearing.




21. Remove the drive shaft.




22. Using a hydraulic press or a remover, remove the bearing from the counter shaft, when necessary.




23. Remove the bearing race from the main shaft.




24. In order to remove the main shaft bearing, fasten it to the synchronizer and pull up with one hand and push down with the other hand.
