Shift Shaft and Fork Assemblies Disassemble
1. Place the transmission on a workbench.
2. Remove the 4 screws from the shift tower.
3. Remove the shift tower.
4. Remove the breather support screw.
5. Using a 1/2 socket, remove the 10 screws from the control cover.
6. Lift the control cover.
It may help to use a flat-head screwdriver.
7. Place the control cover on a workbench.
8. Remove the 3 screws from the retaining support plate on the block.
9. Using a magnet, remove the block pins.
10. Remove the pins and the lock.
11. Remove the 2 screws from the retaining plate.
12. Remove the 5th gear, reverse shaft, and fork assembly.
13. Remove the rest of the assembly with the shafts, forks and stops.
14. Be careful not to lose the 3 spheres and the 3 springs.
15. Arrange the inserts.
16. Using a punch and a hammer, remove the fork pin and fork, if necessary.
17. Remove the fork inserts if they are worn or scored. It may help to use a flat-head screwdriver.
18. Remove the 3rd and 4th gear stop.
19. Remove the 1st and 2nd gear stop.
20. Using a punch and a hammer, remove the fork pin and the fork, if necessary.
21. Remove the fork inserts if they are worn or have jagged edges.
22. Using a punch and a hammer, remove the fork pin and the fork, if necessary.
23. Remove the fork inserts if they are worn or have jagged edges.
