Condition
Some customers may comment that after setting the sliding tool box key code, the lock cylinder will not unlock.
Cause
There may be an interference between the sliding tool box lock plate and the linkage rod.
Correction
Replace the lock cylinder assembly following the procedure below.
1. Using a pair of vise grips, remove the lock cylinder cover. Refer to the illustration above.
2. Grab onto the lock cylinder and remove it from the lock assembly. Refer to the illustration above.
3. Drill out the bottom of the lock assembly using a 13 mm (1/2 in) drill. Refer to the illustration above. Continue drilling until the lock plate falls off the back side of the lock cylinder.
4. Insert a screwdriver through the hole in the lock cylinder. Refer to the illustration above.
5. Locate the washer on the linkage rod and push to open. It may be necessary to elongate the hole to access the linkage.
6. Install the new lock cylinder into the box and transfer the original lock plate on the new cylinder.
7. Set the Codeable Lock using the following procedure.
Important
This procedure needs to be completed before the toolbox is locked. Once it is locked, it may not unlock due to interference between the lock plate and the linkage rod.
1. Keep the box lid open during the coding process.
2. To set the codeable lock, fully insert the truck's ignition key into the lock cylinder before starting the coding process.
3. While maintaining full key insertion, rotate the key clockwise 180 degrees. Return the key to the starting position and the lock is coded.
To help ensure that the key is fully inserted, it is recommended to hold the lock cam inside the box with your other hand while coding the lock.
4. After coding, cycle the lock from lock to unlock five times to ensure proper coding before closing the box lid.
Important
The codeable lock can only be coded one time. If the key is changed, the lock cylinder needs to be replaced.
