Diagnostic Fault Information

Circuit/System Description

The power door locks are controlled by the body control module (BCM) through lock and unlock printed circuit board relays in the IP fuse block. The driver and passenger door lock switches are normally open, 2 position rocker type switches, with detents for lock and unlock. The lock and unlock switch signal circuits are referenced from battery voltage by the BCM and when a door lock or unlock switch is pressed the signal circuit is closed to ground through the switch contacts and BCM determines the signal is active. The unlock relays are controlled by the BCM through driver door and passenger door low side drive control circuits and the lock relays are controlled through a single high side drive control circuit. During lock or unlock operation, battery voltage will be supplied to the lock actuators through the energized relays and grounded through the de-energized relays.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Driver Door Unlock Sw. and Driver Door Lock Sw. parameters while using the driver door lock switch. The parameter should change from Inactive to Active.

If the value does not change, refer to Door Lock Switch Malfunction.

2. Observe the scan tool Psgr Door Unlock Sw. and Psgr Door Lock Sw. parameters while using the passenger door lock switch. The parameter should change from Inactive to Active.

If the value does not change, refer to Door Lock Switch Malfunction.

3. Command the doors to LOCK and UNLOCK with a scan tool, all doors should perform the LOCK and UNLOCK function.

If one or more doors do not LOCK or UNLOCK, refer to Door Lock Malfunction.

Circuit/System Testing

Door Lock Switch Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door lock switch.
2. Test for less than 30 ohm between the ground circuit terminal B and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Door Unlock Sw parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

* With YE9 driver door lock switch terminal D
* Without YE9 driver door lock switch terminal E
* With YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal D
* Without YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal E

4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground. Verify the scan tool Door Unlock Sw parameter is Active.

* With YE9 driver door lock switch terminal D
* Without YE9 driver door lock switch terminal E
* With YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal D
* Without YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal E

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

5. Verify the scan tool Door Lock Sw parameter is Inactive.

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal listed below for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM

* Without YE9 driver door lock switch terminal D
* With YE9 driver door lock switch terminal E
* Without YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal D
* With YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal E

6. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal listed below and ground. Verify the scan tool Door Lock Sw parameter is Active.

* Without YE9 driver door lock switch terminal D
* With YE9 driver door lock switch terminal E
* Without YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal D
* With YE9 passenger door lock switch terminal E

If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door lock switch.

Door Lock Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X1 harness connector at the I/P fuse block.
2. Test for less than 30 ohm between the ground circuit terminal E1 and ground.

If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.

3. Connect the X1 harness connector and disconnect the X2 and X3 harness connectors.
4. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal listed below and ground:

* X2 harness connector, control circuit terminal A3 (Without YE9)
* X3 harness connector, control circuit terminal A2 (With YE9)

5. Ignition ON, command the doors to LOCK with a scan tool, the test lamp should illuminate during the LOCK command.

If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM

6. Connect a test lamp between the X3 harness connector control circuit terminal A3 and B+.
7. Command the doors to UNLOCK with a scan tool, the test lamp should illuminate during the UNLOCK command.

If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM

8. Connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminal listed below and B+:

* X3 harness connector, control circuit terminal A2 (Without YE9)
* X2 harness connector, control circuit terminal A2 (With YE9)

9. Command the doors to UNLOCK by using the driver door lock switch, the test lamp should illuminate during the UNLOCK command.

If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

10. Ignition OFF, connect the X2 and X3 harness connectors at the I/P fuse block and disconnect the appropriate door latch
11. Test for less than 30 ohm between the control circuit terminal listed below and ground:

* Control circuit terminal 2
* Control circuit terminal 3
* Control circuit terminal 5
* Control circuit terminal 6

If greater than the specified range, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the I/P fuse block.

12. Ignition ON, connect a test lamp between the control circuit terminals:

* Control circuit terminals 5 and 6
* Control circuit terminals 2 and 3

13. Command all doors to LOCK and UNLOCK by using the driver door lock switch. The test lamp should illuminate during the LOCK and UNLOCK command.

If the test lamp remains OFF during either of the commands, test either control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace the I/P fuse block.

14. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the door latch.

Component Testing

Door Lock Switch
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate door lock switch.
