Instrument Carrier Replacement




Instrument Carrier Replacement (Terrain)

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the instrument panel lower trim pad retainer assembly. Refer to Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement (Equinox) (Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement)Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement (Terrain) (Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement).
2. Remove the left and right air distributor outer ducts. Refer to Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Left Side (Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Left Side) and Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Right Side (Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Right Side).
3. Remove the center air outlet duct. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Duct Replacement (Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Duct Replacement).
4. Remove the left and right side window defogger outlet ducts. Refer to Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side (Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side) and Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Right Side (Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Right Side).
5. Remove the windshield defroster duct. Refer to Windshield Defroster Duct Replacement (Windshield Defroster Duct Replacement).
6. Remove the communication interface module. Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the radio speaker amplifier. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Remove the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the instrument wiring harness junction block from its bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement (Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement).
10. Disconnect the ground wire connected to the instrument wiring harness junction block bracket.




11. Remove the bolt (1) securing the brake pedal bracket to the instrument panel carrier assembly.




12. Remove the nuts (1) securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the mod plate.




13. Remove the bolts (1) securing the HVAC module to the instrument panel carrier assembly.
14. Remove the nuts (2) securing the HVAC module to the instrument panel carrier assembly.




15. Remove the nut (1) securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the vehicle body.
16. Remove the bolts (2) securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the vehicle body.
17. Note the location and routing of the instrument panel wiring harness to ensure proper reinstallation.
18. Disconnect the instrument panel wiring harness fasteners from the instrument panel carrier assembly and route the wiring harness out of the way.
19. Adequately support the HVAC module in order to prevent damage.




20. Remove the instrument panel carrier from the vehicle.
21. If replacing the instrument panel carrier assembly, transfer all necessary components to the new carrier assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Position the instrument panel carrier in the vehicle.
2. Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness as was noted in the removal procedure and reattach the wiring harness to the instrument panel carrier assembly.




3. Loosely install the bolts (1) securing the HVAC module to the instrument panel carrier assembly.
4. Loosely install the nuts (2) securing the HVAC module to the instrument panel carrier assembly.




5. Loosely install the bolts (2) securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the vehicle body.
6. Loosely install the nut (1) securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the vehicle body.




7. Loosely install the nuts (1) securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the mod plate.




8. Loosely install the bolt (1) securing the brake pedal bracket to the instrument panel carrier assembly.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

9. Tighten the bolts and the nuts securing the HVAC module to the instrument panel carrier assembly to 6 Nm(53 lb in).
10. Tighten the bolt securing the brake pedal bracket to the instrument panel carrier assembly to 22 Nm(16 lb ft).
11. Tighten the nuts securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the mod plate to 22 Nm(16 lb ft).
12. Tighten the bolts and the nut securing the instrument panel carrier assembly to the vehicle body to 22 Nm(16 lb ft).
13. Connect the ground wire to the instrument wiring harness junction block bracket.
14. Install the instrument wiring harness junction block into its bracket. Refer to Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement (Instrument Panel Wiring Harness Junction Block Replacement).
15. Install the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
16. Install the radio speaker amplifier. Refer to Radio Speaker Amplifier Replacement (Service and Repair).
17. Install the communication interface module. Refer to Communication Interface Module Replacement (Service and Repair).
18. Install the windshield defroster duct. Refer to Windshield Defroster Duct Replacement (Windshield Defroster Duct Replacement).
19. Install the left and right side window defogger outlet ducts. Refer to Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side (Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Left Side) and Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Right Side (Side Window Defogger Outlet Duct Replacement - Right Side).
20. Install the center air outlet duct. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Duct Replacement (Instrument Panel Center Air Outlet Duct Replacement).
21. Install the left and right air distributor outer ducts. Refer to Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Left Side (Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Left Side) and Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Right Side (Air Distributor Outer Duct Replacement - Right Side).
22. Install the instrument panel lower trim pad retainer assembly. Refer to Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement (Equinox) (Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement)Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement (Terrain) (Lower Trim Pad Retainer Replacement).
23. Refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for programming and setup information for the body control module , communication interface module, drivers information display, and the instrument cluster.
