Front Wheel Drive Intermediate Shaft Replacement

* J 2619-01 - Slide Hammer
* J 44467 - Output Shaft Assembly Remover and Installer
Removal Procedure
1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair)
2. Remove the wheel drive shaft assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
Note: Remove the retaining ring. DO NOT re-use the retaining ring discard. Use NEW only.
3. Remove the retaining clip for the wheel drive shaft.
4. Remove the mounting bolts for the intermediate shaft support bracket.
5. Support the wheel drive shaft.
6. Using the J 2619-01 - hammer and the J 44467 - remover and installer , remove the wheel drive shaft from the transmission.
7. Remove the wheel drive shaft from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the intermediate shaft in the transmission.
2. Move the intermediate shaft back and forth to ensure that the intermediate shaft is properly seated.
3. Hand tighten the mounting bolts for the intermediate shaft mounting bracket.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).
4. Tighten the intermediate shaft mounting bolts to 35 Nm (26 lb ft).
5. Install the NEW intermediate shaft retaining.
6. Install the wheel drive shaft assembly. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
