Lower Control Arm Replacement (2WD, Z85, ZQ8)

J 43631 Ball Joint Remover

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the stabilizer shaft links from the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (ZQ8, Z85) (Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (ZQ8, Z85))Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Z71) (Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Z71)).
4. Remove the shock absorber nut and through bolt. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (2WD, Z85, ZQ8) (Front Suspension)Shock Absorber Replacement (4WD, 2WD Z71) (Front Suspension).




5. Remove the lower ball joint stud nut.
6. Disconnect the lower ball joint stud from the steering knuckle using J 43631 .




7. Remove the lower control arm nuts and the alignment cams.
8. Remove the lower control arm bolts.
9. Remove the lower control arm.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the lower control arm.
2. Install the lower control arm bolts.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

Note: The fasteners must be tightened in sequence. Tighten the rear nut first then the front nut.

3. Install the nuts and washers.

1. Tighten the rear nut to 155 Nm (114 lb ft).
2. Tighten the front nut to 155 Nm (114 lb ft).




4. Connect lower ball joint stud to the steering knuckle.
5. Install the nut to the ball joint stud and tighten to 138 Nm (102 lb ft).
6. Install the shock absorber through bolt and nut. Refer to Shock Absorber Replacement (2WD, Z85, ZQ8) (Front Suspension)Shock Absorber Replacement (4WD, 2WD Z71) (Front Suspension).
7. Install the stabilizer shaft links to the lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (ZQ8, Z85) (Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (ZQ8, Z85))Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Z71) (Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement (Z71)).
8. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (Service and Repair).
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Verify the wheel alignment. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications (Wheel Alignment Specifications).
