Linear Shift Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure

Warning: Refer to SIR Warning (SIR Warning).

1. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) System. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement).
3. Remove the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement (Shift Lever Replacement).




4. Insert a small screwdriver into the slot on the ignition lock cylinder case and push against the locking tab to remove the automatic transmission park lock cable (1).
5. The ignition lock cylinder MUST be in the OFF-LOCK position.




6. Use a small screwdriver to gently disconnect the automatic transmission shift lock actuator.




7. Remove the linear shift assembly bolts.
8. Remove the linear shift assembly.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the linear shift assembly.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the linear shift assembly bolts.
Move the linear shift assembly out of the PARK position temporarily to install the lower linear shift assembly bolt.

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).




3. Connect the automatic transmission shift lock actuator.




4. Install the automatic transmission park lock cable (1).
5. Install the shift lever. Refer to Shift Lever Replacement (Shift Lever Replacement).
6. Install the steering column trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement (Steering Column Trim Cover Replacement).
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling (Service and Repair).
