Engine Front Crossmember Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
2. Support lower control arms with safety stands.
3. Unload the torsion bars. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Remove the right side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and nut.




5. Remove the left side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt.




6. Remove the engine crossmember bolt from the left lower control arm bracket.




7. Remove the engine crossmember lower mounting bolts and nuts.




8. Remove the engine crossmember upper mounting bolts.
9. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the engine crossmember.
10. Remove the lower control arm nuts and washers.
11. Remove the lower control arm bolts until bolts are flush with the frame.
12. Remove the engine crossmember.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the engine crossmember.
2. Install the lower control arm bolts to the through the engine crossmember and frame.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the lower control arm nuts and washers and tighten the lower control arm to frame mounting nuts.

* Without 14050/12300GVW, tighten to 155 Nm (114 lb ft).
* With 14050/12300GVW, tighten to 120 Nm (89 lb ft) plus 175 degrees.
* With diesel engine, tighten to 120 Nm (89 lb ft) plus 175 degrees.

4. Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the engine crossmember.
5. Install the engine crossmember upper mounting bolts. Do not tighten.




6. Install the engine crossmember lower mounting bolts and nuts and tighten to 65 Nm (48 lb ft).




7. Install the engine crossmember bolt to the left side lower control arm bracket and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).




8. Install the left side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and tighten to 85 Nm (63 lb ft).




9. Install the right side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and nut and tighten to 85 Nm (63 lb ft).
10. Load the torsion bars. Refer to Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Remove the supports from the lower control arms.
12. Lower the vehicle.
