Fuel Tank Replacement (Pickup)

Removal Procedure




1. Disconnect the filler tube from the tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Filler Hose Replacement (Long Box Pickup) (Fuel Tank Filler Hose Replacement (Long Box Pickup))Fuel Tank Filler Hose Replacement (Short Box Pickup) (Fuel Tank Filler Hose Replacement (Short Box Pickup))Fuel Tank Filler Hose Replacement (Cab/Chassis) (Fuel Tank Filler Hose Replacement (Cab/Chassis)).
2. Disconnect the fuel feed and return pipes (1). Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service (Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service).
3. Remove the fuel tank shield. Refer to Fuel Tank Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).




4. Support the fuel tank with a suitable jack.
5. Remove the fuel tank strap bolts (1).
6. Disconnect the fuel sender electrical connector.




7. Remove the fuel tank (1).
8. If replacing the tank, remove the fuel sender. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Transfer parts as necessary.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the fuel tank (1).




2. Support the fuel tank with a suitable jack.
3. Connect the fuel sender electrical connector.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

4. Install the fuel tank strap bolts (1) and tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).




5. Connect the filler tube to the tank. 6. Install the fuel tank shield. Refer to Fuel Tank Shield Replacement (Service and Repair).
