Power Door Locks (AXC/AXE)

Power Door Locks Description and Operation (AXC/AXE)

Door Lock System Components

The power door lock system consists of the following components:

* Driver door lock/window switch

* Passenger door lock/window switch

* Door lock relay-Located in the I/P fuse block and controls the locking of the rear doors.

* Door unlock relay-Located in the I/P fuse block and controls the unlocking of the rear doors

* Body control module (BCM) - controls the locking and unlocking of the rear doors

* I/P fuse block

* Driver door latch

* Passenger door latch

* Left rear door latch

* Right rear door latch

* (2) 25A fuse

* 15A fuse

Door Lock System Controls

The power door lock system can be controlled by any of the following:

* A LOCK or UNLOCK command by the driver door lock/window switch

* A LOCK or UNLOCK command by the passenger door lock/window switch

* A LOCK or UNLOCK command by the keyless entry transmitter

* An automatic door lock function

* Lockout Prevention

Driver and Passenger Lock System Operation

The front power door lock switches are integral components of the driver door lock/window switch and passenger door lock/window switch. The switches are two-position normally open rocker switches with the voltage level in the lock and unlock signal circuits at 0 volts. When placed in either the lock or unlock positions the door lock/window switch will detect the voltage change in the lock or unlock circuit, the respective door lock/window switch then will command it's door latch to LOCK or UNLOCK by suppling battery voltage to one side of the actuator and ground the other. The door lock/window switch will also send a serial data message to the other door lock/window switch and to the body control module which will have the following affect:

1. The other door lock/window switch will command it's door latch to LOCK or UNLOCK

2. The body control module will provide voltage and ground to the appropriate door relay, energizing the relay and providing voltage and ground to the rear door latches causing them to perform the LOCK or UNLOCK command

Programmable Automatic Door Locks

The automatic door lock feature can be programmed to control the door lock system. The feature is factory programmed to have all doors lock and unlock.

When the automatic door lock feature is programmed to control the door lock system, the BCM will command the vehicle doors to LOCK if the following inputs are true:

* Ignition 1 input is active

* Each door ajar switch input indicates their doors are closed

* Transmission is shifted out of PARK

This automatic door lock function will only occur once per ignition cycle, unless a door ajar switch input changes state to active and back to inactive. Then the BCM will lock the rear doors and send a serial data message to the door lock/window switches command their latches to lock again.

BCM will unlock the rear doors and send a serial data message to the door lock/window switches command their latches to unlock when the transmission is shifted into PARK.

Lockout Prevention

The lockout prevention feature prevents the locking of the driver door if the ignition key is left in the ignition lock cylinder. If a lock command occurs from any door lock switch and the BCM detects an active state on either the left front door latch signal, secondary door latch switch signal and/or the liftgate ajar switch signal circuits and the key in ignition switch signal circuit is in the YES state, the BCM, driver door lock/window switch and passenger door lock/window switch will lock the doors and then driver door lock/window switch will unlock the driver door.
