Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description
When the ignition is turned ON, the air bag indicator will turn on and stay on for 8 seconds in the Instrument Panel Cluster for a bulb check. The Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) performs diagnostic tests on the SIR system during the bulb check. If any malfunction exists the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module will request the Instrument Panel Cluster to illuminate the air bag indicator steady, via serial data after the original 8 seconds. If the ignition 1 voltage is outside of the normal operating voltage range 9-16 volts, the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module will command the Instrument Panel Cluster to turn the air bag indicator ON with no DTCs present, then disables all deployment loops.
Diagnostic Aids
* A DTC B1370 may set if the ignition 1 circuit is outside the 9-16 volts range.
* When the remote start feature is used to start the vehicle, the Air Bag Indicator will flash for the complete remote start cycle or until the ignition key is turned on. This is normal operation, no repair is required.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition ON, verify the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module Battery Voltage Signal parameter is 9-16 volts.
• If not the specified range, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle.
2. Ignition OFF, monitor the Instrument Panel Cluster, ignition ON. The SIR warning indicator should turn on and stay on for 8 seconds in the Instrument Panel Cluster for a bulb check.
• If the SIR warning indicator flashes, program the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module.
• If the SIR warning indicator remains on steady after the bulb check, test for DTCs and refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle. If no DTC is current, proceed to the next step.
3. Perform the Display Test in Instrument Panel Cluster/Special Functions. The Air Bag indicator should turn ON and OFF as commanded.
• If the air bag indicator does not illuminate as expected, replace the Instrument Panel Cluster.
4. If all circuits test normal, replace the Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification Verification Tests after completing the repair.
