Alarm Module: Testing and Inspection
Theft Deterrent Module Programming and Setup
Note:
* These procedures only apply to vehicles equipped with a PK3+ immobilizer system (RPO BAE or BAH).
* When replacing a theft deterrent module (TDM) with a new replacement part, the Procedure to Set Up a New Theft Deterrent Module must be performed prior to the 10 Minute Re-Learn Procedure.
Procedure to Set Up a New Theft Deterrent Module
Use this procedure only if replacing the TDM with a new replacement part. This procedure will set up the new TDM based on the vehicle region.
Note: When replacing a theft deterrent module (TDM) with a new replacement part, the TDM will learn the vehicle keys immediately. The existing engine control module (ECM) must learn the new fuel continue password when the TDM is replaced. This is completed by performing the 10 Minute Re-Learn Procedure after set up.
1. Connect the scan tool to the vehicle.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. With the scan tool, select Module Setup under the Theft Deterrent Module menu. Follow the scan tool on screen instructions.
4. Perform the 10 Minute Re-Learn Procedure.
10 Minute Re-Learn Procedure
This procedure will learn the fuel continue password between the TDM and ECM.
Note: If replacing a TDM with a new replacement part, ensure the Procedure to Set Up a New Theft Deterrent Module has been performed prior to beginning the 10 Minute Re-Learn Procedure.
1. Connect the scan tool to the vehicle in the pass-thru arrangement.
2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Ensure that all power consuming devices are turned OFF on the vehicle.
4. On the Techline Terminal, select Service Programming System and follow the Techline Terminal on-screen instructions. Ensure the correct programming selection is chosen based on component being replaced or programmed. For this procedure, go to the V.T.D. Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn (Export Only) menu and choose the Vehicle Theft Deterrent Learn for Powertrain System selection.
5. At this point, the scan tool must remain connected for the duration of the 10 Minute Re-Learn Procedure.
Note: The Techline Terminal will initially display 12 Minutes. The first 2 minutes allow the scan tool to initialize the appropriate control module. The remaining 10 minutes is the relearn timer.
On some vehicles the security indicator may be illuminated for the duration of the 10-minute relearn procedure.
6. Observe the security indicator or the Techline Terminal on screen timer. After approximately 12 minutes, the scan tool timer will expire and/or the telltale will turn off. The vehicle is now ready to relearn the key information and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK.
7. Turn OFF the ignition and wait 2 minutes.
8. With a master PK3+ key, turn the ignition to the RUN position for 15 seconds, then start the vehicle. The TDM and ECM have now learned the fuel continue password.
9. With the scan tool, clear any DTCs.
