Drum Brake Adjusting Hardware Replacement

Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning Brake Dust Warning.


1. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement Removal and Replacement.
2. Fully retract the brake shoe adjuster by holding the adjuster lever away from the adjuster wheel and rotating the adjuster wheel counter clockwise.




3. Remove the brake shoe adjuster spring (1).




4. Remove the brake shoe adjuster lever (1).




5. Carefully spread the top of the brake shoes away from the wheel cylinder and remove the brake shoe adjuster assembly (1).

Installation Procedure

1. Disassemble the brake shoe adjuster assembly and clean the adjuster screw thread.
2. Apply a light coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the adjuster screw threads.
3. Assemble the brake shoe adjuster assembly and position the adjuster screw to the fully retracted position.




4. Carefully spread the top of the brake shoes away from the wheel cylinder and install the brake shoe adjuster assembly (1).




5. Install the brake shoe adjuster lever (1).




6. Install the brake shoe adjuster spring (1).
7. Adjust the rear brake shoes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment Adjustments.
8. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement Removal and Replacement.
