Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement




Power Steering Gear Inlet and Outlet Hose Replacement (LLV, LLR)

J 44586 Power Steering Gear Oil Seal Remover/Installer

Removal Procedure

1. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.





Caution: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Caution Service Precautions.

2. Disconnect the power steering hose assembly from the power steering pump.
3. Raise the vehicle and support with suitable safety stands. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle Service and Repair.




4. Remove the power steering hose assembly bracket retaining bolts.
5. Remove the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear retaining bolt.
6. Disconnect the power steering hose assembly from the power steering gear.
7. Remove the power steering hose assembly from the vehicle.

Caution: Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports thoroughly of any debris. Failure to do so could result in contamination and damage to the power steering system components.

8. Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports of any debris.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the power steering hose assembly to the vehicle.

1. If seal replacement is needed, remove the power steering gear from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement Steering Gear Replacement.
2. Remove the power steering gear oil seals from the power steering gear using J 44586 .

Caution: Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports thoroughly of any debris. Failure to do so could result in contamination and damage to the power steering system components.

3. Clean the power steering gear inlet and outlet ports of any debris.
4. Install the power steering gear oil seals to the power steering gear using J 44586 .
5. Install the power steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement Steering Gear Replacement.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

2. Install the power steering hose assembly to the power steering gear bolt and tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb in).
3. Install the power steering hose assembly clip retaining bolts and tighten to 9 Nm (79 lb in).
4. Lower the vehicle.




5. Connect the power steering hose assembly to the power steering pump. Tighten the power steering hose connection to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
6. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
7. Fill the power steering pump reservoir to the appropriate level.
8. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding Service and Repair.
