35. Camshaft Bearing Removal




Camshaft Bearing Removal

Special Tools

J 33049 - Camshaft Bearing Service Kit

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools Tools and Equipment.





1. Select the cone (1), the handle (10), the expanding driver (4-8), the washer (2 or 3), and the expander assembly (15) from the J 33049 - kit.

2. Assemble the J 33049 - kit.

Note:

* A loose camshaft bearing may be caused by an enlarged, out-of-round, or damaged engine block camshaft bearing bore.

* Always remove the camshaft inner bearings #2 and #3 first. The camshaft outer bearings #1 and #4 serve as a guide for the J 33049 - kit.

3. Remove the camshaft inner bearings #2 and #3.

1. Insert the J 33049 - kitthrough the front of the engine block and into the camshaft inner bearing #2.

2. Tighten the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut until snug.

3. Push the J 33049 - kitguide cone into the camshaft front bearing in order to align the J 33049 - kit.

4. Drive the camshaft inner bearing #2 from the camshaft inner bearing bore #2.

5. Loosen the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut.

6. Remove the camshaft inner bearing #2 from the J 33049 expander assembly.

7. Insert the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly into the camshaft inner bearing #3.

8. Tighten the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut until snug.

9. Push the J 33049 - kitguide cone into the camshaft front bearing in order to align the J 33049 - kit.

10. Drive the camshaft inner bearing #3 from the camshaft inner bearing bore #3.

11. Loosen the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut.

12. Remove the camshaft inner bearing #3 from the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly.

4. Remove the J 33049 - kitfrom the engine block.

5. Remove the camshaft outer bearings #1 and #4.

1. Insert the J 33049 - kitinto the camshaft outer bearing #1.

2. Tighten the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut until snug.

3. Drive the camshaft outer bearing #1 from the camshaft outer bearing bore #1.

4. Loosen the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut.

5. Remove the camshaft outer bearing #1 from the J 33049 expander assembly.

6. Remove the J 33049 - kitfrom the engine block.

7. Insert the J 33049 - kitinto the camshaft outer bearing #4.

8. Tighten the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut until snug.

9. Drive the camshaft outer bearing #4 from the camshaft outer bearing bore #4.

10. Loosen the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly nut.

11. Remove the camshaft outer bearing #4 from the J 33049 - kitexpander assembly.

6. Remove the J 33049 - kitfrom the engine block.

7. Discard the camshaft bearings.
