Removal Procedure

1. Remove the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle)Differential Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD Inch Axles) Differential Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD Inch Axles).

2. Install the differential assembly in a vise.





Note:
Steps 3 to 7, are for those vehicle equipped with 8.6, 9.5,9.75 and the 10.5 inch axles and RPO G80. For vehicles equipped with the 10.5 inch and without RPO G80 go to step 8.

3. For the 8.6 inch axle, use the J 22888 - remover (2) and the J 8107-4 - remover (1), remove the differential side bearing.

4. For the 9.5 inch axle, use the J 22888 - remover (2) and the J 36597 - pilot (1), remove the differential side bearing.

5. For the 10.5 inch axle, use the J 22888 - remover (2) and the J 8107-3 - remover (1), remove the differential side bearing.

6. Remove the differential assembly from the vise.





7. For the 9.75 inch axle, use the J 45711 - remover-dana 248 (2), J 36597 - pilot (1) and a press, remove the differential side bearing.

8. For the 10.5 inch axle without RPO G80, remove the differential side bearing cage and roller bearings from the inner bearing race.

9. Using a suitable method that will not damage the differential case, remove the inner bearing race from the differential assembly.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the J 8107-4 - removerfor the 8.6, J 36597 - pilotfor the 9.5, J 8107-3 - removerand the 10.5 on the opposite side of the side bearing being installed.





2. To install the side bearing for the 8.6 inch axle, use the J 8092 - handleand the J 21784 - installer.

3. To install the side bearing for the 9.5 inch axle, use the J 8092 - handleand the J 29710 - installer.

4. To install the side bearing for the 9.75 w/o G80 or the 10.5 inch axle, use the J 8092 - Handle J 24430 - installerand the J 45900 - dana installer.

5. To install the side bearing for the 9.75 with G80, use the J 8092 - handle DT 46725 - installer

6. Install the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle) Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch Axle)Differential Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD Inch Axles) Differential Replacement (8.6, 9.5/9.5 LD Inch Axles).
